Old Randolph Jail

Sitting directly to the Museum building’s northside is a small, weathered building made of corrugated metal, wood, and stone. This is the Old Randolph Jail which was relocated from its original location when the historic site of Randolph was moved to accommodate the Tuttle Creek Reservoir approximately twenty-five miles northeast of here.

While the old jail was not intended to serve as a long-term incarceration facility, it could effectively hold a newly arrested or accused individual for a short term before they could be transported to Manhattan, the County seat of Riley County, to await sentencing at the County Court House.

The building was donated to the Riley County Historical Society in 1977 when it was moved from a property near Oldsburg, KS to its present location next to the Museum.
