Riley County Historical Society Collections

The Riley County Historical Society collects, preserves, and presents the history of Riley County through its collection of Riley County related objects and its archives. The collection was created for the benefit of the Riley Countians in 1914.

The Riley County Historical Society's collection illustrates the history of the county through a wide variety of objects and documents. The collection runs the gamut from items as large as the Hartford House, a 13' by 17' prefabricated cottage brought to Manhattan in 1855 on a steamboat, to as small as a 5/8" sales tax token. The collection includes ca. 70,000 objects, 4,500 monographic titles, 300 periodical titles, 5,000 cubic feet of manuscripts and archival materials, and 7,000 negatives and photographic images.

We are very grateful to the donors who have made this collection possible. We are always pleased to consider donations of objects and archives that will help us tell Riley County's story. For more information or to donate an item, please contact us.

We welcome research into the Society's collection. Please contact us for an appointment.
